The concept of Long Toms stemmed from a combination of our personal passion for reclamation, the old and the original, and a love of gardens and gardening.
We have both always collected old, beautiful and quirky things, and most of these are of natural or antique origin. This gradually became more than a hobby as we realised the level of interest others held in these one-off pieces.
We both have full-time careers, as well as running Long Toms – Richard is a horticultural producer, director and cameraman for television, and Melanie is a middle manager in an independent school. We live in a 180-year old renovated cottage in the Potteries with our beautiful baby daughter Maia Violet and our two cats Indie and Scrumpy, and love animals, gardening, the outdoors, and travel.
